Inclement Weather Protocol
10/1/25
STEP 1: PREPARATION
In the case of inclement weather during the course of play, a responsible bystander will be designated by the team captains as an official to watch radar and determine when play will be postponed.
STEP 2: POSTPONING THE GAME
Play is postponed when lightning is identified within a five-mile radius of the playing field.
Play is postponed for fifteen minutes, at which point radar is reevaluated by the designated official.
STEP 3: RETURN TO PLAY
Teams may return to play when the designated official determines that lightning is no longer within a five-mile radius and when it is reasonable to believe that the games will not be postponed again.
All games will continue at the point at which they were postponed.
If the games must be postponed a second time, all games will be cancelled for the night.
STEP 4: CANCELLATION
If after one hour of postponing the games, radar still shows lightning within a five-mile radius, the games will be cancelled.
Games may be cancelled prior to one hour if it is reasonable to believe that lightning will not pass in that amount of time.
Games that have completed the third quarter will stand; other games will not count.
Team Captains may not override the designated official’s decision in any case, but may be involved in determining cancellation.
OTHER NOTES
To ensure consistency and accuracy, the radar application of choice is Lightning Pro.
The designated official should be an unbiased, non-player bystander. A player may be designated only if absolutely necessary.
The designated official may not be involved in any active game.
